Boldest Action of the Challenge: "Power up that hill" with Stefan R.

Stefan's action:

Day after Bike to Work day, managed to get kids to school before the 2nd bell w/ kindergartner on KidzTandem and 3rd grader on his OWN BIKE!

Stefan's thoughts:

I certainly don't think of myself as a "bold adventurer" when I get the kids to school without a minivan or SUV everyday! But every car trip eliminated is truly a good thing at so many levels, and pays such great dividends down the road, when these elementary school kids figure out that biking is the most sensible, healthiest (and funnest) way of getting to middle school, high school ... and beyond!

My kids don't go to their neighborhood school, but it really isn't very far. It actually takes us about twice as long to drive a car to their school as it does to bike there, so it is truly a practical solution! And biking provides fresh air, unbeatable quality time w/ the kids, and the chance to provide them with hands-on, real-world bike safety training, each and every day of the week! As it happens, I am the PTA Traffic Safety Representative at their elementary school, but this is just too good (and important) an opportunity for anyone to pass up!

My son still likes to ride in the front of this KidzTandem (a truly amazing bike designed and sold by Chris Brown from his bike shop in Grand Junction, CO http://www.browncycles.com/tandems.htm ). But he has graduated to his own 5 speed bike, now that his kid sister is in Kindergarten and can reach the pedals! It certainly turns lots of heads to see me and both kids on 1 bike, but now my son will get more practice and develop safe biking skills!
