"step 1. run to the park. step 2. run stairs. step 3. run more stairs. step 4. even more stairs. step 5. run home. step 6. feel the burn."
Laura's thoughts:
To me, "Bolder" represents competing with yourself to be the best person you can be, and striving to 'up the ante' daily. It's about never settling, and always finding ways to better yourself, and push others to be better, too. Juggling a full load of "pre-med" courses, a long-distance relationship, and a handful of other activities can get pretty stressful to say the least, and exercise is a great way to let go of some of that frustration.
A good sweat leaves me feeling refreshed, energized, and ready to conquer any obstacle that's thrown my way. I'm currently training for the "Bolder Boulder" 10k over Memorial Day weekend, and therefore have been doing A LOT of running lately. As much fun as that is, I feel the need to mix it up a bit. Running stairs is not only a great work-out, but if you're lucky, at the top of the stairs, you are rewarded. In my case, at the top of the stairs I run lies one of the best views of Portland I've ever seen. There are 233 stairs in a row at Portland's Mt. Tabor Park, and I like to run them until my legs stay 'no more.' Then, I reward myself with some stretching in front of breath-taking views. For those of you living in Portland, or visiting anytime soon, I recommend a trip to Mt. Tabor Park. Run the stairs on the Belmont side and prepare yourself for a magnificent view at the top! For everyone else, find the stairs in your community with the great view at the top! Make every action a bolder action :)
